Oak Worktops

American White Oak is the most desirable of all the Oaks, even English Oak. Delicate grain patterns, lighter, consistent colours and incredible strength are the hallmarks of American White Oak, the finest examples of which come from the Northern Appalachian Mountain region of New England, particularly Vermont and New Hampshire.

An Oak worktop is a brilliant work top where you need some light reflecting back from the surface, or just prefer a lighter colour to say walnut. Around 60 percent of the worktops we supply for clients are Oak worktops, and when you look closely at an oiled sample it’s easy to see why. Sunlight almost brings American White Oak to life, making it almost magnetic to human hands.

Oak worktops go extremely well with a whole variety of kitchen units, contemporary and classic, making it one of the most versatile worktops of all. Our Oak worktops mellow gently over time – after initial oiling the colour and shade will not really change much, other than taking a slightly softer patina, a characteristic of most natural materials. Thanks to its extremely dense grain, an American White Oak worktop will last for centuries if properly maintained.

White Oak is fine around under mounted sinks once properly oiled. If you are cutting the Oak worktop yourselves, make sure you use very sharp tooling indeed, and expect it to be blunt by the time you have finished. Do not use steel screws with an Oak worktop as the iron will react with the tannins producing a blue stain around the screw which can never be removed. Our staves are 40 mm wide and vary from 120 mm to over 1200 mm, so the quality of the timber is immediately obvious.

Our workshops can make up an Oak worktop to almost any size and shape. We have made Oak worktops over 6 metres long and over 2 metres wide. As well as all manner of sink cut outs, corners, curves, drop downs, mitre cuts and finishing detail, we can also oil the worktops so they are ready for immediate installation. We are happy to do as much, or as little work as you would like us to do.

A word about our suppliers and the Oak they use in their worktops. Our suppliers are one of the largest producers of Oak paneling for furniture and worktops in the world. They exclusively use top grade (proper industry classification grade, not ‘grade A’, which could mean anything) Oak from the Appalachian Mountain region of Pennsylvania, and the results are immediately evident in these oak worktops.

Please compare any other supplier with us by spending just £ 3.50 on a sample. You’ll be glad you did.
